Los Angeles Apparel (LAA) was founded in 2016 by Dov Charney shortly after his ousting from American Apparel. Based in South Central LA, it operates as a vertically integrated, domestic manufacturer focusing on ethically made, high-quality, and sustainable basics, employing over 1,500 workers with living wages, typically starting at $20/hour. Following his departure from American Apparel, Charney sought to recreate the "sweatshop-free," locally manufactured, and vertically integrated model.The company is known for its "Made in LA" marketing, focusing on, and in 2017, they printed worker names/faces on labels to emphasize the importance of local manufacturing.
